|| Nataraja Maham Vande Nritya Rupam Cha Parvatim
Sumukam Shantha Hastam Cha Pranamami Guruguham ||
We pray to Nataraja, the Lord of dance who always danced in the presence of his consort Parvathi, the queen of Nritya (dance), from whom Shiva took the spiritual power to dance. We also salute Sumukha, the attractive face (Ganesha, their son), who transmits the divine power from his hand. We also pray to Guruguha, the second son, who represents sacred knowledge." For me dance is the best medium of expressing my innermost feelings, which directly comes through the soul. It is the medium of expressing our views of all kinds of emotions called 'Bhava-Rasa' in Kathak (described in classical dances in nine forms). Being a dance performer and choreographer I realize that the presentation should be very stunning, appealing and beautiful so that spectators are enforced to be spell bound. Because dance is the form of art and art is always creative. |
